Mrs. Bennett was born in Boston, Massachusetts. She attended Catholic schools from first grade through high school, graduating from Oswego Catholic High School in New York. Her degree in Secondary Education Spanish is from the State University of New York at Oswego. She also attended the University of Puerto Rico as an exchange student to study Spanish. Following graduation, Mrs. Bennett taught in Puerto Rico for several years at a Catholic school and then for a few years in Miami.
