Sister Brittany Harrison, FMA - Theology
Faculty Information
Sister Brittany loves being a Salesian Sister because she loves working with young people. Ever since she read about Don Bosco, who founded the Salesian Sisters with St. Mary Mazzarello, she knew that she wanted to continue his mission of serving the young, wherever God called her to do that! God has called her to go many places: from her home city of Chicago, to Los Angeles, to New Jersey, and now to Naples, Florida, Sister Brittany has been able to gain a vision of young people within the United States that has deeply enriched her sense of Salesian service to the young.
A catechist since she was a teenager, she has taught all levels of religious instruction, from elementary school to high school, but high school is her favorite.
When she was nine years old she had her first poem published in “Highlights” Magazine, when she was seventeen, a booklet published about the Salesian brother, Blessed Artemides Zatti, and has written numerous articles on Salesian spirituality and events for the Salesian Bulletin, the quarterly magazine of the Salesians. She has also contributed to various Catholic internet sites.
Following the tradition and style of Don Bosco, Sister Brittany has a passion for technology and integrating it into the transmission of the Catholic faith to young people. “Young people today are media-driven,” she writes, “Tech is the language that they speak, so if we do not know how to communicate the faith in their own language, it will not seem relevant to them. The gift of any good catechist or theology teacher is the ability to take the language of the young people, relate that to theology, and help them to apply it to their everyday life in a significant and meaningful way. Young people are naturally spiritual and have a beautiful connection to God, we just have to help them to uncover it. It is a privilege for me to accompany them in that sacred process.”
