CAMPUS MINISTRY

9th Grade - Introduction to Catholicism I & II
In order for a student to grow in their faith and pursue further studies in religion, it is necessary to start with the basics of the faith. This course in freshman year seeks to introduce the student to Catholicism.
- Faith will be presented as the response to God’s invitation to us, and the teachings of the Catholic Church, held in Sacred Scripture, Tradition, and the Magisterium, will be unfolded as the beliefs of the life of faith we are called to.
- Beginning with the invitation of God to each of us, the course will move through the Apostle’s and Nicene creeds: coming to know God as Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, explaining the life and beliefs of the Catholic Church.
- We will then move to Revelation, the Sacraments, and complete with a study of Christian morality and virtue.
- There is also a unit on human sexuality and the choices teenagers face in this area today.
- This is a comprehensive course of the Catholic faith, which will be a base for the ensuing years of religious studies.
10th Grade - Introduction to Sacred Scriptures ( Old Testament & New Testament )
Sophomore year is an in-depth study of Scripture. Over the course of the year the Bible will be looked at from numerous angles and critical methods to reveal its powerful message and content.
- Starting with the Old Testament, the fall semester will look at the Revelation of God and the covenant that God establishes with the people of Israel before the time of Christ, the Beauty of Salvation History.
- Continuing onto the New Testament, the spring semester will study the life of Jesus as contained in the four Gospels, the exhortations of the New Testament epistles, and the Book of Revelation.
- Through the study of Sacred Scripture, the course will also explain Catholic doctrine, which has Scripture as its source.
11th Grade - Introduction to Morality I & II and Lives of the Saints
Morality is a yearlong course that prepares and empowers the student to transition out of high school and into young adulthood. The course is broken into 2 semester units.
- The first semester studies the principles of Catholic Morality. It seeks to inform and challenge the student to develop a fully conscious and mature sense of Christian responsibility towards oneself and society as a whole.
- The second semester students learn to apply the principles to real life issues and by reviewing the Lives of the Saints. This will allow students to examine the lives of saints throughout the history of the Church and see how these models faced similar challenges that student face and to apply the same virtues to their lives.
12th Grade - Catholic Social Teaching & Theology of the Body
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the Church’s Social Teaching.
- In this course students are to learn how Christ’s concern for others, especially the poor and needy, is present today in the Church’s social teaching and mission.
- Furthermore, this course is to help students to understand the vocations of life: how Christ calls us to act and to live. Students should learn how all vocations are similar and how they differ. This will be demonstrated as students discover married life, single life, priestly life, and consecrated life.
- Students should learn what it means to live life for the benefit of others and the value in considering a vocation in service to the Christian community.
