OCTOBER-JUNE (Junior Year): Complete college admission tests (SAT 1, ACT). Register and take SAT II tests as needed per college requirements.

SUMMER: Complete college research and visit colleges. Narrow college choices to at least five schools to which you want to apply. Use the library, internet, and other sources of information like college publications, career center, and college guide books found in the guidance office.

AUGUST - SEPTEMBER: Register to retake SAT/ACT if necessary. Work on your activity/honor/awards resume. Draft scholarship and application essays. Make sure you have applications to the schools you are considering.

SEPTEMBER: Complete college admission tests. Attend college fairs to speak to representatives of the colleges where you are interested. Attend high school visit session made by college representatives. Be prepared to ask questions.

OCTOBER - NOVEMBER: Complete admission applications by college deadlines (especially applications intended for early decision or scholarships). Contact each school to see if an institutional financial aid form is required in addition to the PROFILE and/or Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

DECEMBER: Collect information needed to complete the FAFSA and PROFILE.

JANUARY: Encourage parents to complete income tax returns as soon as possible. Complete a FAFSA and PROFILE using the completed tax returns. If you do not have tax returns completed by the Financial Aid deadline date, then estimate information on the Financial Aid forms. Do not wait to be accepted for admission to complete tax returns and financial aid forms.

FEBRUARY - MARCH: Student receives a Student Aid Report (SAR) which gives an overview of the information you completed on the FAFSA. Student receives decision letters from colleges (decisions may arrive early or as late as April 1).

MARCH - APRIL: Anticipate financial aid award letters from schools outlining financial aid assistance. If you have not visited the schools you are considering, this is the last chance to do so before you have to make a decision.

APRIL - MAY: Decide which school you will attend; send your SAR to that school if they require it. You may be asked to send a housing deposit at this time. Most schools have a MAY 1 deadline date for informing them on where you plan to attend college. Please inform ALL schools of what your final plans are!

MAY: Enjoy the rest of your senior year! Make housing plans, call the college you will be attending to make sure they have all your necessary information, make travel plans for your trip to the campus, find out about Freshman Orientation.
