MISSION & HISTORY
MISSION STATEMENT
St. John Neumann Catholic High School, Inc., a STRONG Catholic Christian Family, has Jesus Christ and His Gospel message as its inspiration.
We strive to develop the uniqueness of each student spiritually, intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially.
We respect the dignity of all in a safe, fair and positive learning environment that stresses personal responsibility, service and life-long learning skills.
St. John Neumann Catholic High School - CELTIC CREDO
We believe in God, our loving Creator and Father;
We believe in the intrinsic value of the human being as created in God's image and called to be his child.
This includes all persons and excludes any forms of racism and other discrimination.
We believe that the deepest purpose of each man and woman is to create, enrich, and share life through love and reverence in the human community.
This motivates our open and relentless pursuit of truth.
For this reason, we foster reverence for life in all its human potential.
We believe that we should support all persons in their free and responsible life-sharing through family and social systems, and through political, scientific, and cultural achievements.
We believe that we must strive for a human community
of justice, mutual respect and concern. In this context,
we must cultivate, respect and care for
our planet and its resources.
We believe that laws exist for the benefit and well-being
of individual persona, that legal systems must express
the common good, and that all government must
be subject to the courageous, though respectful and loyal,
criticism of intelligent and responsible citizens.
We believe that the law of justice and love must regulate
the personal, family, economic, political, and international
life of all persons if civilization is to endure.
We believe in the teaching and example of Jesus Christ.
HISTORY
St. John Neumann: A Tradition Moving Forward
In 1980, St. John Neumann High School opened its doors as the only Roman Catholic secondary school in Collier County. Under the guidance of the Augustinian Fathers in the early years, followed by the Christian Brothers, St. John Neumann High School has been an anchor in Southwest Florida, providing excellence in education blended with Catholic values.
A new campus is underway, thanks to a $10 million “Building the Dream" Capital Campaign. St. John Neumann Catholic High School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is one of 15 schools in the Catholic Diocese of Venice under the direction and pastoral care of Bishop Frank J. Dewane.
Celebrating Our Past
St. John Neumann Catholic High School began in temporary facilities at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church with an inaugural freshman class of 27 students. The following fall, a new school building was completed on the present site bearing the name St. John Neumann, the American saint who was the fourth bishop of Philadelphia and a pioneer in Catholic education. With its first graduation class of twenty-five students, St. John Neumann began a tradition that would continue for decades.
The years ahead brought an increase in enrollment and by the mid-1990’s, St. John Neumann was faced with the challenge of limited space and facilities. Rising to the challenge, St. John Neumann launched a capital campaign to add a second wing to the existing school. In the fall of 1997, Bishop John J. Nevins dedicated the new wing that included five new classrooms, a computer lab, a small chapel, a media center and new Administrative, Guidance and Development offices.
In 2000, just as St. John Neumann was again being challenged to meet the changing needs of the student body, a plan was established to ensure that St. John Neumann remained academically competitive. By strengthening the faculty, the foundation and skills were acquired to enhance students’ success, resulting in a growing enrollment and a continued reputation for academic excellence.
Excelling Today
Today, St. John Neumann provides a liberal arts college preparatory curriculum enriched in strong Catholic traditions. Modeled in the footsteps of Blessed Edmund Rice, St. John Neumann High School fosters family spirit and respect for diversity.
With a student teacher ratio of 12:1, students are provided with specialized, individual attention that assures success in a demanding academic environment. Honors and Advanced Placement Courses are offered in most subject areas while formal religious studies, liturgical and prayer filled experiences are designed to help students to come to know God. This is further complemented by over 10,000 hours of annual community service, helping our students to grow in their faith, shape their values and morals, and to see the role of Christ in their lives and the lives of others.
Our admissions and academic philosophy embrace students with varying degrees of academic readiness and differing learning needs. Our distinguished faculty, coaches, and staff at St. John Neumann High School meet students at their level, and support them in their growth toward reaching their maximum academic and personal potential.
Over the past several years, academic curriculum and programming have been the focus. This is reflected in the statistics for our graduating seniors. Over 98% of St. John Neumann graduates are admitted to higher learning institutions every year as they continue to excel in scholastic endeavors. SAT and ACT scores remain well above the national average. Over $13 million in grants and scholarship achievements have been awarded to Neumann graduates in the past few years, helping them attend the nation’s finest colleges and universities. Our returning students have become integral parts of the Naples social and economic fabric, and we enjoy a growing tradition of educating community leaders and civil servants.
With the courage that enabled our Founders to establish St. John Neumann in 1980, and with the commitment to excellence that guided the education of our many successful graduates, we are called to fulfill a legacy of hope left to us by those who have preceded us.
St. John Neumann Catholic High School is committed to continuing its tradition of excellence by providing enhanced facilities and learning tools to achieve the educational, social and spiritual needs of our students that our mission mandates. To meet this challenge, we took a step of faith and in 2006 embarked on a $10 million dollar capital campaign, “Building the Dream.” More than $1 million dollars in improvements have been made to the campus, thanks to the generosity of so many of our friends and school families, and to the leadership of our Honorary Campaign Co-Chairmen, Bishop Frank J. Dewane and John F. Donahue. Construction of Phase I of the project has begun and includes a new Physical Education and Fitness Training Center, Concession Stand and Courtyard complete with a beautiful Celtic Cross. Future building plans include the development of a new Chapel and Campus Ministry Center, Student Life Center as well as updates to our existing facilities. With God’s help, we are well on our way to “Building the Dream” for St. John Neumann Catholic High School.
